Grumpy little guy waiting to be taken back to surgery
First thing yesterday morning Zack had his surgery to have his G tube, a type of feeding tube, placed. He did very well with the surgery and the recovery, and everything was done much quicker
than we expected, which was wonderful!!
Things since then have been a little more rocky, but are now looking up. Since Zack is on the Ketogenic Diet, everything has to be done a little different to ensure he doesn't get any extra sugar or carbs. The pain med they were giving him was very short acting, leaving him in a great deal of pain and discomfort very frequently. There were a number of problems trying to get him a different pain med that he could take that was keto friendly and a small enough dose for him, but after some pushing we finally got it figured out and got him much more comfortable.

All done with surgery, but still not happy :(
Because of his pain and irritability after his first feed by mouth and tube, they had discontinued any oral feeds or bolus feeds, and put him on a very slow continuous feed of his Powerade Zero overnight to see how he tolerated it. After a good night of rest and tolerating the liquids, we were able to start feeding him small amounts of formula by mouth today and he is doing great!! We have been able to get him up to 4 oz by mouth and 2 by tube, and if he does well with that we should be about done here!

Feeling better!!
We are in the process of going through all of the training for the tube, and the medical supplier should be here shortly to train us on how to use the feeding pump and get us set up for the supplies we will need to take home with us.
Unless something changes in the next few hours, it looks like we will be able to be discharged sometime today!! Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for our tough little guy!!
