We could never have imagined what was in store for our sweet Zackary, or the highs and lows that we would encounter in his first year, but I am very grateful for that. We had 5 amazing weeks of "normal" before the dreaded seizures started. We got to be regular first time parents and worry whether we were bathing and dressing Zack correctly, not how many seizures he had that day or how much of his meds he spit out. I look back on those first few weeks and laugh- we were so sleep deprived and nervous about everything, but it was nothing compared to what was to come.
There is no denying that the dreams we have for our little guy have changed from what they were before all of the seizures. A part of me is still grieving over all the things that Zackary may never get to do or become. But for all that he may or may not experience in his future, he has already surpassed what we were told to expect from him, both developmentally and life expectancy, and for that we are so very blessed. Each day with our sweet boy has been amazing, and we pray for many, many, many more to come! As for celebrating Zackary's special day, we went with a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed "Very Special Birthday." His party was on Sunday and he was literally surrounded by friends and family. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to celebrate with us, Zackary is one lucky guy to have so many loving people in his life!
Yesterday we went for a walk and played outside in Zack's new pool, enjoying the beautiful warm weather.
Zack has had a very special birthday week, and its not even over yet! Tomorrow is his 1 year old check up and after that we are hoping to go check out the new aquarium at Crown Center. Again, thank you to everyone who helped make his 1st birthday so special!!
